The holidays and the end of another year give us the opportunity to appreciate how fortunate we are to work in a team that is strong, proud and ready. Indeed, we are so lucky to have one another.

2018 has been a busy year in terms of training for high readiness, expeditionary operations and numerous training-related tasks. We were able to carry out these activities successfully. Closer to home, we took on sizeable challenges, such as support for the G7 Summit, the organization of the Interallied Confederation of Reserve Officers Competition and Operation LENTUS in the Magdalen Islands. Overseas, we were deployed to such places as Latvia, Ukraine, Mali, Senegal, Kuwait, Egypt, Norway and the Democratic Republic of Congo. We are thus contributing to a more stable, peaceful world through peace support operations and peacekeeping.

While solely missions and deployments are visible, a series of conditions must exist to ensure the success of these missions, which are both complex and demanding personally, professionally and organizationally. I would therefore like to thank all the members of 2nd Canadian Division. Together we make up a comprehensive team that enables us to positively contribute to the Army’s objective to position itself for concurrent operations by generating multi-purpose, agile and combat-ready land forces. I would also like to thank all our partners at Joint Task Force (East) for their commitment and unwavering support.

The support of each and every one of you—Regular Force members, Primary Reserve members, Public Service employees and PSP employees—is essential for our success. Chief Warrant Officer Gaudreau and I offer you our heartfelt thanks. Nothing would be possible without you. Thank you.

During this holiday season, our thoughts are with our brothers and sisters deployed overseas, far from their families. We appreciate you spending the holidays with another family, the one you chose with your commitment to this great institution of ours. A family that is envied for its cohesiveness, reputation and the nobility of its mission.

More than at any other time of year, there is a void in families left by the men and women serving on missions. At holiday tables, a place will be empty. Children and spouses: your continual support, year after year, mission after mission, truly deserves our deepest gratitude.

Chief Warrant Officer Gaudreau and I have but one message for you. Thank you. The 2nd Canadian Division thanks you.

We wish you a peaceful and relaxing holiday season and a wonderful 2019 filled with health, generosity and exciting challenges.
